Who We Are
The Walking Classroom is a 501(c)(3) non-profit created and headquartered in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, offering an award-winning educational program which allows students to engage in physical activity without sacrificing instructional time.
What We Do
The program is simple: students take brisk 20-minute walks, while listening to custom-written, kid-friendly podcasts educational podcasts aligned with academic standards. Podcasts address topics in language arts, social studies, and science. Each begins with a health literacy message and incorporates a character value.
Currently, over 100,000 students across the United States use the program, both in schools and in out-of-school settings, like after school programs, summer camps, and more. Our mission to get the program into as many schools as possible, especially low-income schools where many students are struggling academically. While we are a non-profit, revenue from sales continues to grow and to support our efforts, we operate with the same tools any small business would use.
