Volunteer: Well-Check CallsStudent volunteers are paired with 3-5 older adults in the community who have signed-up to participate in the CARE Connections program. Volunteers call their "senior partner" weekly (or at another interval decided between them) to check-in. In addition to discussing access to healthcare, medications, transportation, food, and other social drivers, we encourage callers to spend time chatting with their partner, learning about their lives and interests. The weekly well-check calls are the foundation of the program: our goal is to establish authentic and trusting relationships that decrease social isolation and connect older adults to community resources. For new callers, we provide training, scripts, and educational videos to support the well-check calls. Prior to volunteering with us, potential volunteers must complete our volunteer application and intake (including form submission, completion of 2 LMS modules if uncompleted, and viewing of our training material). A member of the leadership team will reach out via email to walk through the volunteer initiation process upon submission of the application. Volunteer: Delivery DriverThese volunteers support support our urgent food delivery initiative. Volunteers meet at the Feed My Sheep food pantry at 11am on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month, load food bags/boxes into cars, and then deliver these food boxes to the homes of older adults within our program. CARE Connections leadership creates routes in advance based on the number of volunteers signed-up to delivery and older adults signed-up to receive food. Total duration of the volunteering activity is from 11am - ~1:30pm. Please note: We manage volunteer sign-ups on a Google Sheet outside of the Duke Connect Community platform. If you would like to deliver groceries with us on a Saturday in the future, please click here to sign-up. Tabs of the google sheet describe the date ranges of available sign-ups. You can also join our GroupMe to learn about upcoming volunteer opportunities. Organization: CARE Connections These volunteers support support our urgent food delivery initiative.
