Volunteer: Compost DriverThis volunteer will be responsible for picking up compost at the end of Saturday's distribution (between 10-10:30am) and bringing it to the Duke Gardens. The commitment will be approximately 1 hour. It is critical that the driver has a pickup truck/van/car that is large enough to fit the week's compost – approximately three 27-gallon bins and/or trash bags with additional compost. A tarp will be provided to keep your vehicle clean. A cart will be provided to assist with transporting the compost once at the gardens. The bins, tarp, and cart will then need to be returned to Uncle Harry's. We highly encourage volunteers in this role to be physically able and/or to bring a friend along, as the compost bins can be heavy (~25-70 lbs each). If you are interested in this position, please read this document that outlines the roles and responsibilities of the compost volunteer in more detail. If you have any questions, please contact Spencer Hao (spencer.hao@duke.edu, 415-608-6567). Volunteer: Delivery DrivingAll drivers must read this document before volunteering. Driving may be up to a 2-hour commitment (eg. someone who picks up at 10:00 AM should plan to finish by 12:00 PM at the latest). We routinely need 15-20 drivers to serve ~175 households each week. In order for us to generate driving routes based on an accurate headcount of drivers for the week, we ask that you sign up no later than 5PM the day before distribution. Once routes are generated, an email with instructions will be sent to all volunteers within a few hours of their pick-up time. The more people signed up, the quicker the routes are for everyone!
