Who We Are

As Duke’s chapter of Rotaract, our mission is to create relationships between students, faculty, and members of the Durham community through service and professional development. By meeting with leaders interested in improving the Durham and Duke community, we are able to hone in on the most pressing issues. Our projects range from collaborating with on-site vendors to raise funds for other driven organizations to active volunteering.

The mission of Rotaract is to provide an opportunity for men and women to enhance the knowledge and skills that will assist them in personal development, to address the physical and social needs of their communities, and to promote better relations between all people worldwide through a framework of friendship and service.

Rotaract is unique in its service mission in its ability to make life-changing connections and build friendships. In addition to service events, Duke Rotaract hosts social events and offers space for members to get to know one another and what inspired them to dedicate their energy into helping others.

What We Do

Rotary International is an international service organization of 1.2 million members and over 35,000 clubs in over 200 countries, so chances are no matter where you are from or where you travel, Rotary has a presence. Rotaract, which is what this club is considered, can be thought of as the young adult or college version of Rotary. As a Rotaract club, we focus on providing opportunities in community service, international service, and professional development. Our projects are guided by our 7 Areas of Focus (see below). We create opportunities through speakers, socials, hand-on activities, working with other Rotary International clubs, and incorporating our members' ideas.

7 Areas of Focus:

  1. Promoting peace
  2. Fighting disease
  3. Providing clean water, sanitation, and hygiene
  4. Saving mothers and children
  5. Supporting education
  6. Growing local economies
  7. Supporting the environment
