Who We Are
CARE Connections is an interprofessional Duke student organization lead by health professional school students. We invite health professions students, graduate school students, and undergraduate students to volunteer with us!
What We Do
CARE Connections (previously known as the DukeMed BEC Fellows / BEC Senior Support Program) aims to address social isolation and social drivers of health for older adults, a historically marginalized population. We provide weekly well-check calls, free health fairs, urgent food delivery, and resource connection to local resources for older adults primarily living in Durham's community housing. The weekly well-check calls are the foundation of the program: volunteers are paired with senior partners with the goal of establishing authentic and trusting relationships. CARE Connections allows students to connect with the greater community, learn how to discuss structural issues surrounding health, and practice a form of care for older adults. We are grateful for the Duke Benefit's Enrollment Center and our community partner, Feed My Sheep food pantry, for helping to make this goal possible.
