At HOPE North Carolina, we are committed to providing affordable, inclusive housing options for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We value community, self-determination, inclusion and advocacy. The Board Treasurer helps uphold those values by keeping our financial house steady and clear. This is more of a hands-on role than some Treasurers, for someone who believes in community power and wants to help ensure our resources are managed with integrity.
What This Role Does
∙ Coordinates with our third-party bookkeeper to:

Keep our financial records
organized, accurate, and up to date
∙ track income and expenses and
categorizes transactions
∙ reconcile bank statements and
monitors account activity
· Prepares simple, easy-to-understand quarterly financial updates for the board
· Works with the Executive Director and Finance Committee to create our annual budget alongside the Board President and Executive Committee
· Assists ED with grant-related income and expenses to ensure we stay compliant
· Coordinates with accountants, auditors, or fiscal sponsors when needed
· Coordinates annual audit and 990
What Makes Someone a Good Fit
• Ability to explain financial information in a clear, accessible way
• Experience with bookkeeping or financial recordkeeping, as well as spreadsheets
• Comfort using or learning accounting software
• Strong attention to detail and follow-through
• A heart for community work and alignment with HOPE NC’s mission and values
• Nonprofit experience is helpful but not required — commitment matters most
Time Commitment
∙ Average of 10-20 hours per month,
including bi-monthly board meetings
∙ Skews more during budget season and
annual audit/990 process
