What We Do
HOPE NC was founded by three local families who have adult sons with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) and are committed to expanding housing options for this population. HOPE's mission is to create inclusive communities where people of all ages and abilities experience a sense of belonging. HOPE's housing model includes a percentage of the units reserved for older adults who need affordable housing and who, like adults with I/DD, often suffer from social isolation. Our intention is to build this community in the Triangle, and for it to become a pilot for other similar communities throughout NC. A community such as HOPE envisions would have people with and without disabilities and active older adults living as neighbors, with the involvement of a Community Facilitator to encourage social interactions, provide resources and referrals to residents as needed, assist in building relationships, and create a culture of mutual support and caring among all residents of the community. HOPE has partnered with a national affordable housing developer that is ready to proceed with us, once suitable land is found. The location needs to be walkable, safe and relatively close to amenities and public transportation, since a number of our future residents aren't able to drive.
