MAAME Mission Statement: MAAME, Inc (Mobilizing African American Mothers Through Empowerment) is a Black-founded and Black women-led maternal health organization working towards improving negative health outcomes for Black women and other birthing people of color in Durham, North Carolina by creating supportive social networks, culturally-affirming maternal health services, and socio-economic resources.

 

Primary Responsibilities: As the volunteer coordinator you are responsible for recruiting and helping train new volunteers on the mission, principles and values of MAAME. Additionally, you are responsible for creating and maintaining a database of volunteers to best match volunteers to opportunities within MAAME that best suit their unique skills and strengths. 

Expected Commitment:

5-10 Hours per week 

Be able to attend weekly staff meetings on Monday at 6pm

Some weekends are required for events

Responsibilities: 

  • Engage with the Administrative and Programmatic teams in support of fundraising, finance, organizational development, etc.
  • Support volunteer recruitment, maintain volunteer database, and reports 
  • Research tabeling, engagement,and partnership opportunities in the community for MAAME and represent the organization as needed

Qualifications: 

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Strong commitment to MAAME’s mission, vision, and guiding principles.
  • Proven ability working with multi-racial, multi-ethnic, multi-gendered, intergenerational communities and organizations.
  • Excellent interpersonal, writing and communication skills.  Comfort and experience with public speaking and communicating with community members, community leaders, funders and the media.
  • Must have a strong interest in reproductive justice and birth justice
  • Background/interest in the fields of social justice, public health, maternal and infant health, and community education
  • Must be able to adopt anti-oppressive, anti-racist, and trauma-informed frameworks to navigate the systems of oppression that directly impact community members we serve 
  • Proficiency or working knowledge with Microsoft Office programs, Slack, and cloud-based internet software or willing to learn
